Interfaith Work

Jewish-Muslim Dialogue

Members of Temple Israel and the Faith Islamic Academy meet monthly to dialogue about Jewish-Islamic issues. We are following the curriculum recommended by the Union of Reform Judaism through their Children of Abraham book.

For information, visit http://www.urj.org/what-we-believe/resolutions/jewish-muslim-dialogue. To download the Children of Abraham PDF file, click ciweb.org/phocadownload/Religion/Religion_ChildrenofAbraham.pdf.

The dialogues occur on one Thursday evening a month starting at 7 pm with the location alternating between Temple Israel and the Islamic Society of Akron and Kent (ISAK) in Cuyahoga Falls.

Interfaith Justice Alliance

Temple Israel is an active partner in the Interfaith Justice Alliance, which includes Faith Lutheran Church, Hope Baptist Church and St. Hilary Catholic Church. This Christian/Jewish partnership sponsors a Lenten lecture series exploring themes common to both religious and interfaith events. For example, in the spring of 2020, the Interfaith Justice Series focused on Moving from Trauma to Healing. For more information, see https://www.faithlutheranchurch.org/interfaith-justice-alliance-committee.

Gesher Interfaith Group

The Gesher Interfaith Group of Temple Israel’s Small Groups program focuses on interfaith families in our congregation. With more than 50% of our congregation part of or from an interfaith family, the Gesher Interfaith Group is an important social network for our congregation. This group is available to our young families, if you have married someone who is not Jewish and still celebrate with family, have parents with shared holidays, or have converted to Judaism.
